Transfer Printing Door – A Closer Look | YK Door

A transfer printing door is made using a heat-transfer process that applies wood grain patterns onto the door surface. There are two main types:

  • Steel sheet doors (commonly used as security doors), which use wood-pattern transfer paper;

  • MDF, solid wood, or composite doors, which use a PVC-based wood-pattern transfer film.

The latter gained popularity in China around 2012 for its cleaner patterns and higher-quality appearance. At YK Door, we offer both types, depending on the customer’s needs.

Key Features of MDF/Solid Wood Transfer Doors:

  • Sharper Detail: The PVC film holds the grain pattern tightly without bleeding, creating a clearer and more realistic look than paper.

  • Eco-Friendlier Materials: Raw materials are generally more refined and aligned with environmental standards.

  • One-piece Construction: These doors are manufactured as a single unit, increasing structural stability.

Features of Steel Sheet Transfer Doors:

  • Lower Print Clarity: The wood grain on transfer paper tends to blur slightly.

  • Less Eco-Friendly: Raw materials often include non-environmental adhesives.

  • Split Construction: Doors may be assembled in parts, reducing strength.

Known Weaknesses:

  • Formaldehyde Emissions: Many transfer doors use thinners and adhesives (like urea-formaldehyde glue) that release harmful substances over time.

  • Fire and Security Limitations: Flammable coatings, thin steel sheets, and lack of internal reinforcement make these doors less suitable for high-security or fire-rated applications.

  • Surface Durability: Due to heat expansion during production and weak coating adhesion, the finish may peel or fade over time.

  • Rust Issues: Non-galvanized steel parts may corrode, especially after the soaking and washing steps in production.

  • Missing Grain Detail in Joints: Areas like the door frame and air seal often show visible gaps where the wood grain doesn’t transfer well.

Transfer printing doors offer a stylish alternative at an affordable price, but understanding their limitations is just as important as appreciating their visual appeal. At YK Door, we help customers choose wisely—because a beautiful door should also be safe and long-lasting.
